Activism

I have taken part in many campaigns as an activist, supporting Dr Govinda KC, protests regarding the violence against women, Lipulek/Kalapani, citizenship bill, supporting Ruby Khan, meter byaji, parliament dissolution and so on.

One of the successful campaigns was regarding the election symbol during the local election in 2079. Only the bigger parties were allowed to contest using their own election symbol. We, the Nepal Bibeksheel Party, initiated this immediately after the party registration. In the beginning, 8 parties took part in the Zoom meeting. In the end, there were around 37 parties involved. We organised different activities and coordinated with each other. We went to the election commission, we protested on the ground, and we met representatives of several other institutions. Ultimately, the election commission ruled that smaller and newly registered parties could utilise their own election symbols, provided they had registered committees in their respective districts. A huge success!

I am also involved in a campaign called "Nepal Farkaun Abhiyan" (Return to Nepal Initiative) which motivates Nepalis abroad to return back home.

For many years, I supported the campaign to pass the citizenship bill, which was finally ratified. I continue to advocate for equal citizenship rights for women and further legal improvements. I am a board member of the organisation Family Rights Nepal which is fighting for the rights of Nepali citizens married to foreign citizens and their children.

I believe that activism and campaigning are very important to raise social and political issues. While spearheading a campaign may not always be feasible due to time and resource constraints, it is essential that we consistently support one another through our presence and solidarity.
