Children's Book
Bhumi Ghimire and I have written a book for children. It is called "Can I become Prime Minister".
The book is in both English and Nepali. It is available at Ekta, Thuprai, Pilgrims, Books Mandala and many other bookshops (also online). Please contact 985-1139651.
We are two Nepali mothers - Karma Tamang and Bhumi Ghimiré - both born and raised in Nepal and are now acutely aware of the implications of Nepali politics in our lives and that of our children. Growing up in Nepal, such wasn’t the case and we wish it had been otherwise.
As children, we understood politics to be something grown-ups discussed but not something that would affect our later lives so very directly and to such a degree. We would like to see this change.
We feel that the government's many failures can also be attributed to many of its citizens not being aware of the purpose of the state and the responsibilities of those who hold positions of power.
Through this book on the role of the Prime Minister, we are attempting to sensitize Nepali children on the role of the Prime Minister as head of Government. The idea is not to plunge deep into the world of political science but to make politics accessible and understandable starting from a young age so future voters choose the right candidates and demand the delivery of good governance alongside exercising their rights and performing their duties.
The book is to make children feel that they’re part of a nation-building project and that the government is accessible and understandable and not something that only ‘rules’.
We have worked pro bono. We aim to distribute this book to children, mainly in rural Nepal, and for this, we require financial help from your side. Any little contribution would be invaluable.
